You’re keeping the good news in schools
For some children, Special Religious Education (SRE) is the only way they’ll hear about God’s love for them.
And it’s friends like you who help ensure that SRE keeps happening.
SRE Coordinator and teacher Christine has seen the highs and lows of SRE, especially in the COVID period. But despite hard times, she is always motivated to keep on teaching – because every student should have the opportunity to grow in their knowledge and love of Jesus! Chris says:
“One day a child said to me, ‘Who’s God? What’s God?’ In a culture where many people don’t even know who God is, SRE teachers play a vital role in helping students explore these important questions for themselves.”
Chris has seen first-hand how SRE nurtures Christian faith in her students. She says:
“[SRE] gives them opportunity to find faith, or at least to listen to how they can find faith, even if it’s not now, but in the future. That’s what I say to some of my kids: ‘I’d like you to listen at least, so that you can find out how you can call on Jesus later in your life when you need him.’”
You’re helping to provide training and resources that equip SRE teachers to nurture this faith in young people.
Chris prays for the students she’ll teach this year that they will know Jesus through the Bible, be attentive, and have the strength to persevere when opposition comes their way:
“I think of the good soil [from Jesus’ parable of the Sower], to be that sort of person … the teachers and the kids all need to be the same – to have a heart that’s right with God and have a listening heart, not just one that pretends to listen, or has other things in the place of God.”
Thank you for generously helping to train, equip and encourage SRE teachers to keep impacting children’s lives across Australia.
