Announcing Andrew Stevenson as Head of Youthworks’ Ministry Support Team

Andrew Stevenson

Anglican Youthworks is delighted to announce that after a competitive recruitment process, Andrew Stevenson has accepted the invitation of CEO Canon Craig Roberts to succeed the Rev Ed Springer as Head of its Ministry Support Team (MST), commencing October 2021. This follows Rev Springer’s move to become senior pastor at Orange Evangelical Church earlier this year.

Youthworks has played a large role in Andrew’s ministry life for the last 20 years, where he attended Youthworks conference centre sites through high school camps, attended Youthworks College as a student, participated in youth minister’s conferences and ran school and youth group camps.

Andrew brings to this role a deep experience of building capacity in local churches for effective youth and children’s ministry which include:

  • Youth and High School Ministry Advisor with MST for 8 years until 2013, where he partnered with Churches, ministers and key volunteers to resource, create and enable youth and high school ministry across the southern half of Sydney and southern NSW.

  • Leading multiple teams at St Michael’s Cathedral, Wollongong for the past eight years, where he has had responsibility for the Cathedral’s Sunday night congregation alongside oversight of the 55 youth and children’s leaders at church and over 25 SRE teachers engaged at 13 local public schools. Is also the primary school SRE coordinator and chair of the high school SRE board for the past 12 years.

  • Current KYCK youth conference Chair and committee member for the past 16 years and program director of Youthworks’ storied Leaders in Training (LiT) conference, and an in-demand conference speaker.

Andrew sees his key challenges and tasks as building on the incredible reputation MST has among youth and children’s ministry across the diocese and persuading rectors and Church staff teams of the gospel imperative before us to make disciples of all people, especially young people, to grow the Church now and into the future.

We are looking forward to Andrew bringing to MST, and the churches of Sydney, over two decades of experience in ministry to young people, his proven leadership skills and his boundless energy and passion to see faith in Jesus commended and formed in every young life.
