The Finance Team ensures Youthworks is well run: that it operates within budget; plans effectively; stewards its resources; manages its employees well; has appropriate information systems; acts in compliance with appropriate policies and legislation; acts in alignment with its strategy; and identifies and manages risks. The division also undertakes special projects: assisting the CEO to formulate and execute a strategy; identifying areas for organisational and cultural improvement; executing key strategic projects relating to existing divisions; and exploring new opportunities that align with Youthworks’ strategy.
About the role
Working closely with the CFO, the Senior Accountant is responsible for supporting the finance team with day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance. This role plays a key part in ensuring the accuracy, efficiency, and integrity of the organisation’s financial systems and reporting processes.

Your responsibilities
Work with the team to prepare and manage the monthly management accounts and annual financial reports
Assist with the month-end and year-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations
Work with the team to maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate coding of transactions
Support the preparation of BAS, GST and other statutory lodgments
Assist with external audits and liaise with auditors as required
Support the preparation, reconciliation and review of balance sheet accounts monthly
Involvement in the oversight of accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice approvals and payment runs
Working as part of a team to manage the preparation and quality of the annual budgets, rolling forecasts and other projections to facilitate quality decision making
Provide variance analysis and commentary on financial performance in partnership with the leadership team
Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis and decision-making
Support the CFO with strategic financial planning and business analysis
Identify and mitigate financial risks to the organisation
Ensure there are adequate financial controls and management reporting systems
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance timeliness, efficiency and accuracy
Support the transition to automated systems and digital platforms
You will need to demonstrate
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
CPA or CA qualification
Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role
Proficiency in accounting software (preferably Accounting Seed, but not essential)
Proficiency in using a range of software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel (Advanced), PowerPoint and databases
Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
Ability to interact with an executive team
High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to multitask and to be flexible to reflect changes in priority
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills with a focus on providing strong customer service
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Willingness to work within an Anglican organisation
