You can help preserve each child’s access to special religious education in NSW schools

Sign the open letter below to protect Special Religious Education in NSW.

You know as a parent or grandparent that education is about more than just academics. It’s about nurturing the whole child – mind, body, and spirit.

That’s why Special Religious Education (SRE) classes are such an important part of your child’s or grandchild’s education. They provide an opportunity for spiritual growth and moral development that can’t be found in any other subject.

But did you know that there are politicians right here in the NSW Parliament who want to see SRE removed from our schools?

Right now these politicians are in the minority, but this minority is growing and they’re highly motivated.

By adding your name to this open letter, you’ll help remind the NSW Parliament of the value of SRE, and encourage them to continue supporting it as an essential part of every child’s education.

Because your voice matters – and it’s important to speak up for the issues that matter to you and your family.

When you sign this open letter, you’re making a powerful statement that religious education should remain protected in our schools.

So take action today! Sign the open letter below and stand up for each child’s access to Special Religious Education.

An Open Letter to Members of the New South Wales Parliament

Dear Members of the New South Wales Parliament,

I write to you today on behalf of countless parents and grandparents across our state who deeply value Special Religious Education (SRE) in our schools.

SRE plays a vital role in the holistic education and development of our children and grandchildren. It is a cherished part of their educational experience.

As elected representatives, I know you are committed to ensuring that every child in New South Wales receives the best possible education. And it is for this reason I urge you to recognise and support SRE.

Here are three key reasons why SRE matters so much to parents and grandparents like me:

1.     Values education: SRE provides an essential platform for teaching children values such as respect, kindness, empathy, and tolerance. It helps them develop a moral compass that will guide them throughout their lives.

2.     Spiritual development: For many families, spiritual development is an integral part of their child’s upbringing. SRE offers them a unique opportunity to explore and deepen their understanding of their faith traditions.

3.     Choice and diversity: Every child deserves access to an inclusive education that respects and celebrates diversity. By supporting SRE, we ensure that families have freedom of choice when it comes to religious instruction for their children and grandchildren.

I understand there may be differing opinions on this matter, but I kindly ask you not to overlook the deeply held convictions of parents and grandparents who believe in the value and importance of Special Religious Education.

Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter. Your dedication as public servants is greatly appreciated by all members of our community.

Yours sincerely,
